Trio for Lokkur, langspil and proto-langspil is IIL‘s third proto-langspil release

As the title indicates, the piece is a trio of the instruments: Lokkur, langspil and proto-langspil. It is a piece by composer Berglind María Tómasdóttir who wrote it for the proto-langspil album, a collection of proto-langspil experiment by various artists. It is set to be released on Friday, November 17th.

“I asked my daughters, Sigga, Svana and Anna Signý to play the proto-langspil so the piece includes a trio of them playing the instrument,” says Berglind. “The recordings used of Lokkur and langspil were done by my friend Rachel Beetz. So, in a sense, the piece is a collaboration of five people.”

The aim of the album is to showcase the artistic results of their proto-langspil instrument. Every artist had artistic freedom to do whatever they wanted with the instrument, so each track is unique. The album will be called Strengur tímans and is set to be released on February 2nd 2024. Until then, we’ll keep releasing singles from different artists with different soundscapes and inspired by different situations.

“I composed the piece while staying in Bali earlier this year, perhaps slightly influenced by the sounds I was consuming there, including gamelan playing and the sound of nature.”

Josh Wilkinson did the mastering. The project is supported by the Recording fund and Composer’s fund of Bylgjan and Stöð 2.

Eins og titillinn gefur til kynna má heyra þrjú hljóðfæri í laginu: Lokkur, langspil og prótó-langspil. Þetta verk er eftir tónskáldið Berglindi Maríu Tómasdóttur sem samdi það fyrir prótó-langspils plötuna, safn tilrauna ýmissa listamanna sem notuðu þetta nýja hljóðfæri í frumsköpun sinni. Lagið kemur út á föstudaginn, 17. nóvember.

„Ég bað dætur mínar, Siggu, Svönu og Önnu Signýju um að spila á prótó-langspilið þannig verkið er í raun tríó með þeim að spila á hljóðfærið,“ segir Berglind. „Upptökurnar sem notaðar voru af Lokknum og langspilinu voru með vinkonu minni Rachel Beetz. Þannig að í raun er verkið fimm manna samstarf.“

Markmið prótó-langspils plötunnar er að sýna listrænan árangur hljóðfærisins. Sérhver listamaður sem fram kemur á plötunni hafði mikið listrænt frelsi, svo hvert lag er einstakt. Platan mun heita Strengur tímans og á að koma út 2. febrúar 2024. En þangað til höldum við áfram að gefa út smáskífur frá mismunandi tónlistarfólki sem allt hefur sinn einstaka hljóðheim og fær innblástur úr mismunandi aðstæðum.

„Ég samdi verkið á meðan ég dvaldi á Balí fyrr á þessu ári, ef til vill undir áhrifum frá hljóðunum sem ég var heyrði þar, þar á meðal gamelan tónlist og hljóði náttúrunnar.“

Josh Wilkinson sá um hljómjöfnun. Verkefnið er styrkt af Hljóðritasjóði og Tónskáldasjóði Bylgjunnar og Rásar 2.
