The Intelligent Instruments Lab presents the first event in their 2022 concert series - Living Algorithms - in partnership with RAFLOST Festival, and supported by Rannís Music Fund.

Intelligent Instruments Lab are partnering with RAFLOST Festival for Living Algorithms.

Living Algorithms aims to celebrate and disseminate live coding - a practice involving the creation of art by writing and changing computer programs while they run. For more information about the international live coding community, see TOPLAP and Algorave.

Free live coding workshops will take place at Listaháskóli Íslands Þverholt throughout May 16-20th delivered by experts Professor Thor Magnusson (creator of the Threnoscope), Dr Jack Armitage (Lil Data) and PhD researcher Victor Shepardson. We are also pleased to invite artists Ida Schuften Juhl and Halldór Eldjárn to provide additional creative and musical inspiration and encouragement.

Members of the public are welcome to drop in for a beginner friendly introduction, or to go deeper into advanced topics as the week goes on. Those who wish to go all the way will have the opportunity to perform at the RAFLOST Closing Party on Saturday 21st May.

  • Mon 16 May, 13:00-17:00: Introduction to live coding
  • Tues 17 May, 13:00-17:00: Live coding with TidalCycles
  • Weds 18 May, 13:00-17:00: Hybrid live coding with iipyper
  • Thurs 19 May, 13:00-17:00: Practise and rehearsals for RAFLOST Closing Party
  • Fri 20 May, 15:00-17:00: Open Lab x RAFLOST
  • Sat 21 May: Live coding at RAFLOST Closing Party
